My research will facilitate elucidation of conserved molecular pathways controlling the invasive trophoblast cell lineage and uterine spiral artery remodelling, thus creating a platform for understanding the pathogenesis of diseases impacting placentation.
I utilize a combination of human stem cell culture and transgenic rat models to explore molecular mechanisms of anti-coagulation factor action in human trophoblast cells and investigate roles of anti-coagulation factors in the regulation of hemochorial placentation. In particular, the roles of TFPI and THBD in modulation of coagulation and in regulating differentiation of the invasive/extravillous trophoblast cell lineage.
